The very cool interactive map below is from the Iowa City Community School District Website. It gives you the opportunity to find out the school attendance areas for neighborhoods in the Iowa City School District. All you need to do is plug in any address in the search box in the right hand corner, hit enter and click on the map and the school district for that neighborhood will pop up. I found that a partial address – street name and city worked just fine. The best part is that you can pan around and see where the boundaries are for the school districts too.

The above screenshot shows a search I did for Mulberry, Coralville. The shaded area shows homes around Mulberry St and Mulberry Circle are in the Wickham School District. On the other side of 12th Ave you’ll see Biltmore Ln and Belmont Dr. They happen to be in the Van Allen School District. I know that, which is precisely why I ran a search for Mulberry, knowing that the result would give me a good example of shaded and unshaded areas for this post.
Keep in mind this is a tool for research purposes. If the school district you buy a home in is important to your buying decision then you should make sure you verify any information you get from the website before making an offer on a home in the Iowa City are. You can do this by calling the main office at the Iowa City school district at 319-688-1000.
Another Great Resource for Home Buyers
Another excellent tool for home buyers is the Johnson County Property Viewer. Google Maps is great for showing location and directions, but less helpful when it comes to property lines. The Johnson County Property Viewer gives good aerial views that show where the property lines are. Each property is also linked to the assessor’s site for more information about the property. This is a valuable resource when you’re past the “browsing” homes phase and looking for in depth information on a specific property.
