One of my favorite tools to share with buyers relocating to Iowa City is the Property Viewer Tool. Often times when you’re looking at listings online there’s no mention of the fact that the house backs up to the Interstate, or it’s on a busy street. Maybe you just want to know how big the yard is in relation to the house. Or there’s that other oh so popular question: Where are the property lines? The property viewer is easy to use. Click the graphic below and you’ll be taken to the Johnson County website where you type in the address of the property you’re interested in. One click later you’ll be shown an aerial view of the property and the neighborhood it’s in. It’s a great way not only to see where the property lines are, but also how it relates to the rest of the neighborhood.
When you’re relocating to Iowa City time is of the essence. You don’t want to waste it on looking at properties that aren’t a good fit. The more you can eliminate before you ever get in a car to look the better! Everyone I’ve sent this tool is impressed. I think I was most impressed with the 80 year old couple who claimed not to be particularly tech savvy and still figured it out. And then there was a young man who could tell me the elevation level of all the properties we viewed when he came to town. Apparently he had spent A LOT of time using this tool for his online research!
If you have school age children another really cool tool that might interest you is the interactive map on the Iowa City School District Website.
