New Decade, New Website: WordPress is the Way to Go…

How do you start your first post on your new WordPress blog? Bet I’m not the first person to wonder that! Seems stupid to launch as if I’ve been here forever, so I guess the obvious answer to my own question is that I need to start with a short introduction of myself and what I’m doing here.

So here goes… I’m a real estate agent serving the Iowa City area. I’ve just launched a real estate website on WordPress after about 5 years of trying out different real estate template websites and never being happy with the results. I wanted a nice clutter free interface where buyers and sellers could find home listings and the real estate info they need without any hassle. And ultimately of course I’d like them to contact me to help them buy or sell a home in the Iowa City area.

Now you may be wondering what made me choose WordPress, a platform usually associated with blogging. The answer to that is simple. WordPress is much more versatile than just a blogging platform and allows you a freedom designing your own website that you’d have a hard time finding anywhere else.

How do I know this? This is where I plug my friends and colleagues on ActiveRain where I started blogging 5 months ago. If you’re a real estate professional and you haven’t checked out AR yet, you don’t know what you’re missing! In my short time on AR I’ve learned an amazing amount about blogging, SEO and other diverse topics that help me build my real estate business. That’s how I know about WordPress and why I’m here today.

Now I’m pretty tech savvy, but I sure as heck didn’t build this website on my own! I came up with many of the design aspects, but I needed someone to help me pull it together. The lions share of the work done was from someone in the WordPress Community, Kaspars Dambis.

This is where we see that the Internet has no borders. Kaspars is in Latvia, Europe. I can’t say enough good things about him… What impressed me most? Let’s just say he’s my kind of guy. A person who sees solutions and not problems. You tell him what you want and he’ll come up with a way to make it work. It’s the way I am when I help clients with real estate transactions too. I also firmly believe there are no problems, just solutions, so you can see why we would hit it off so well, can’t you?

I think that’s enough info for a first post, don’t you? You know who I am, why I’m here and as a bonus you learned who helped me get here.

Of course you can expect real estate related posts in the future. Don’t worry though, I have more in me than that and will keep you interested on a variety of topics that are near and dear to me, like green living, technology and cooking, just to name a few.
