Homes in the Goosetown Neighborhood, Iowa City

Goosetown is in the north of Iowa City. The name Goosetown goes back a bit to when Bohemian immigrants settled there in the 1850′s and kept geese in their yards. It’s about a mile from downtown Iowa City, making it a very popular choice amongst students and faculty relocating to Iowa City for the University of Iowa. Goosetown is on the east side of the Iowa River, which is where you will find the older period homes dating back to the 1800′s.

The link takes you to homes in the Mann Elementary School District. Mann Elementary is within walking distance of homes in the Goosetown Neighborhood. At the time of writing this post there is only one house in the Goosetown Neighborhood on this list. As Goosetown is considered prime location homes typically sell quite quickly, especially if they’re in a price range accessible for more buyers. It’s worth noting that considering the dynamic nature of the MLS the number of homes listed may change depending on when you visit the link.

Goosetown Neighborhood Iowa City Summer 2012

What makes the Goosetown one of the most desirable neighborhoods to live in Iowa City are the historic homes on larger lots and of course it’s super location within walking distance to downtown Iowa City. Another good thing it’s got going for it is easy access to I-80. Living in the north of Iowa City you have better access to the Interstate than anywhere else in Iowa City.  Elementary age children in the area attend Mann Elementary School. Iowa City has 41 parks so there are a few close by. The one that jumps out at me because of the happy name is Happy Hollow Park. The biggest parks close by are Hickory Hills Park and City Park.
